The south of the island is famous for the diversity of beaches. Maspalomas with their white beaches and Sahara sand dunes, luxury resorts. The longest beach Playa del Inglés with a good nightlife and in the Mogan area, picturesque Puerto Rico located at a narrow valley with a beautiful beach in the bay. You'll also find a large number of small beaches, some of them are touristy with many opportunities for entertainment, on other beaches you can just enjoy the tranquility.
The east of the island offers sports beaches with kitesurfing and international windsurfing championships. Ariniga is famous with the diving areas around the El Cabron Reserve. The Avenida Maritima runs from the north to the south, follows the whole east coast and connects Gran Canaria Airport to all the coastal villages, like Aguadulce Beach, Playa de Melenara and Playa del Hombre.
The north of the island is green and leavy with quiet lovely fisher villages like Valle de Agaete. The town of Gáldar offers an archaeological park and one of the most beautiful buildings in the Canaries, The Matrix Temple of Santiago de Gáldar. The capital is Las Palmas de Gran Canaria with its large cosmopolitan Las Canteras Beach, in the north-east of the island.
The west of the island have large free beaches,wild and rugged coastlines, sometimes only accessible by foot or boat.
Maspalomas, Gran Canaria
Maspalomas is certainly one of the most amazing places of Gran Canaria, the fine white sand beach with wind-sculpted dunes is more than 5,5 km long. This area has many high quality luxury resorts.
